In Thailand, as in other areas of Southeast Asia, the floating markets
are the expression of a tradition never lost, a symbol, a daily habit
that goes beyond the simple purchase of food. These markets river, albeit sometimes
tourism (such as Damnoen Saduak, situated about 100 kilometers from Bangkok and you can visit in half a day) than others (such as the Taling Chan), take advantage of the calm waters of the channels (called khlong) to be populated by voices, smells, food.
Often when we talk about markets you end up imagining the usual and ordinary stalls, but here we are talking about markets on boat. In my trip to Thailand, less than two years ago, I visited several floating markets. I pursued this desire for a long, and I continue to pursue him until one day actually not be able to visit those of the Mekong River.
Here's the overview of the market of Damnoen Saduak, open only in the morning.

The elegance, dignity, and the skill with which they move the women on their boats is breath-taking. The elegance of simplicity.
Everything is prepared and cooked on board small boats, sitting, without ever losing his balance.

Inthese markets, if you fall victim of fear and hygiene, you can eat everything from hot dishes such as rice, noodles sauteed, soups thai, to meat and fresh fruit.
I own in Thailand I discovered a new fruit ... and I loved it instantly. The mangosteen (see in the photo below left).
Aesthetically, a kind of small eggplant round but with a heart inside of sweet white segments.

Recommend a visit to Taling Chan market, Bangkok. Certainly more authentic Damnoen Saduak. Just look around and find that the percentage of tourists is much lower than that of the Thais. Gas bottles everywhere, smoke, colors, pans, spices, fish, rice, traditional Thai music and huge carp around punts ready to devour the bread launched by children.
